The Dirty Projectors have been making music for a while, but their latest album, Bitte Orca, is FANTASTIC. It’s not exactly new (it came out in June 2009).
I’ve played music for a long time, and pretty early on I started geeking out about prog-rock bands like Rush, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Dream Theater, and (especially) Yes for their killer off-time, double bass, jamaholic wonder.
This Dirty Projectors album has a lot of the quirk and technique you’d find in many Yes tracks, but on Bitte Orca the melodies seem to win. The band really masters the music, bending very interesting technique around melodies that work, that are catchy even when they seem stuttered and warped.
This album is very good. You like. You get!
P.s. Some tracks I really like on this album are: Cannibal Resources, Stillness is the Move, No Intention, and Temecula Sunrise (<== OMG Guitar!).

Yes!
As a musician, its easy to love DP because of their song arrangements. The way they combine vocal harmonies with their guitar work is very unique. As a music blogger very and unique are two words I seldom use next to each other. Great band.
p.s. check out another band called Here We Go Magic. Their album last year was number 1 on my list with the Bitte Orca being a close 2nd.
ohhh, thx Jason! I’ll definitely check out Here We Go Magic. Cheers!
