I have been listening to one playlist non stop for the past 2 months. It’s not a big playlist, there’s only 4 albums in there. But the mood of this music is completely addictive.
Did you see Drive yet? I enjoyed the crap out of that movie. This music makes me feel a little like I’m in that movie.
Drive Soundtrack
First off is the drive soundtrack. Here’s the thing you need to know about this: there’s a bunch of weird ambient tracks and 5 actual “songs” in this album. Doesn’t matter — you’ll be putting the playlist on shuffle, and the ambient stuff actually builds the experience a little.
This stuff is good. The 5 main songs will transport you back into Drive with a shit-eating grin and earnest, over-emotional desire to live in the Say Anything of the future… ♫ and a real hero.
I could write you a bit about who composed this stuff, why it’s important, etc… but you don’t care — just put it in your head holes.
Fake Drive Soundtrack
This was floating around the internet when Drive had just come out. Not sure how legal it is, but this tweet may help you find the mix.
This fake soundtrack features songs from all sorts of retarded sounding bands, but the texture of the music is excellent — it’s good enough for me to forget about how ridiculously horrible I’m sure all the bands’ hairstyles are.
Tycho — Dive
More chillout and smooth than the others, a lot less moody too, but this album’s saucy, bubbly, beach vibes from Jupiter are excellent character development plots for the other tracks in the playlist.
I just read that, it sounds ludicrous. You should hate me… because I actually think it’s a good description of the music on this album.
This guy Tycho wears cool shirts and desaturates everything in his life; he also makes good music. You’ll like this. This is probably the most accessible album on the list.
M83 — Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming
This one takes the cake. M83 is probably my ultimate guilty pleasure. I’m not wearing some Parisian horizontal striped sailor’s assistant shirt, I don’t carry tote bags, I don’t have a pair of Keds™ or just bangs… So I don’t feel like I fit in with the usual M83 crowd, but I’ll be damned if they don’t create the best damn vibe on the market today.
I truly wish I lived in an M83 song. From any of their albums. Including this one.
Conclusion
You need these albums, go get them:
