My $9 Coffee

At Barista on NW 13th and Hoyt you can get a $9 coffee. But if you’re a coffee geek, that’s just the sort of thing you’re looking for, isn’t it.

This cup was made using their very sweet vaccuum pots, which create a very clean cup, excellent to really get into the flavor of a bean.

You likee. Trust me.

Mamp and Parallels 5: How to setup a windows & mac virtual host

After a good deal of frustration and silliness I found out how to access virtual host through a windows browser on a virtual machine on a mac. That is, if you want to develop websites on your mac, and then do cross browser testing (internet explorer) on a virtual machine running inside your mac (with Parallels or VMWare, or other), read on. First of all you need mamp. Go download the free (non pro) version of that (unless you want to pay for a few more features. but you don’t need to). Install it (here’s a great little write up on how to install mamp). (more…)

Bleeding Truth, one of those things you make when you’re younger

So, you may not know this about me, but I used to spend quite a bit of time making musics… I learned how to play guitar early on in Jr. High, and hell yes I could shred. Then I got some recording equipment and started to love the recording process.

Here’s a song I created a long time ago, just after college. About a girl who was hard to get to know, but who I thought was lovely.

We all grow up, and listening to this stuff now is bitter sweet for me. I’m proud of some bits, though I’m confident we could all do without most of the vocals.

Be nice.

Making Case Law Fun

I’m learning about some relevant case law to gain some insight into the world of “the legal.” If you’ve ever read case notes or case summaries you probably know that this shit is hard to read! I’m sitting here, one tab open to a legal dictionary, another tab with my article on it, selecting individual sentences and reading them over, and over, and over again, trying to get the words to stop sticking to the sides of my brain, like rogue cheerios in a cereal bowl.

So i’ve started taking notes, putting the case in some conversational tone. And the shit is funny. Here’s an example of one case:  (more…)

Blueprint CSS: A framework… I used it and loved it

So, I’ve just finished designing and developing a new website and I tried something different this time. Normally I design a site in Photoshop and then cut and code from a finished design. This time, however, the focus was much more on the content and information flow than anything else. So I wanted to get to work writing the content in the context of a simple webpage (because those CEO’s need to see something beyond a Word document, don’t you know it). I looked around for a few minutes and found Blueprint CSS, a CSS framework to make your shit sparkle fast… or just give you a nice, standards based set of tools to get started with a site immediately. A few benefits of Blueprint CSS: (more…)

"I believe you really are a good husband…"

I hate the way you talk about your married life, Harry,”said Basil Hallward, shaking his hand off, and strolling towards the door that led into the garden. “I believe that you are really a very good husband, but that you are thoroughly ashamed of your own virtues. You are an extraordinary fellow. You never say a moral thing, and you never do a wrong thing. Your cynicism is simply a pose.”
